During 2015-2016 Gavin Jackson Cultural Resource Management conducted a number of archaeological surveys at Mesa B, Mesa C and Mesa H for Rio Tinto Iron Ore. The survey areas are located 17km-40 km southwest of Pannawonica. The surveys included site assessment and basic and detailed recording of archaeological sites, primarily rockshelters located around the Mesa tops and artefact scatters located on and around the Mesas. Work was conducted in an efficient and timely manner resulting in successful outcomes and an outstanding performance in health and safety. The project was conducted with the full involvement and assistance of the Traditional Owners from the Kuruma Marthudenra Aboriginal Corporation.
Mesas B, C & H were re-visited in 2017 to carry out detailed site recording at 20 previously identified sites.
Surveys and site recording have been ongoing at Mesa H in 2018. These works involved surveying previously unsurveyed areas, recording newly identified heritage sites and revisiting and assessing previously identified sites. These works were carried out in an efficient and timely manner, with the full involvement and assistance of Traditional Owners from the Kuruma Marthudenra Aboriginal Corporation.
