BHP Archaeological Surveys and Site Recording

From 2015-2020 Gavin Jackson CRM have conducted numerous archaeological surveys on behalf of BHP Iron Ore. The project areas include Eastern Ridge, Ophthalmia, Mick Bore, Noose and Floodplain, Packsaddle and South Flank, located in and around Newman, Western Australia.  Archaeological sites located in these areas have been recorded to both basic levels for site management purposes and detailed levels for section 18 applications.  These projects consistently resulted in successful outcomes and outstanding performance in health and safety.

Ian Ryan Director & Project Manager
Dr Ian Ryan has worked full time as an archaeological consultant since 2003 and joined the GJCRM team as a Project Manager and senior archaeologist in 2008. Ian has been the Senior Consultant on more than 250 indigenous archaeological surveys including several excavations and large-scale site salvages in the Pilbara region. Ian has authored and co-authored more than 300 archaeological survey and salvage reports. He has presented and published several research papers based on data collected during archaeological surveys and other cultural resource management projects.

As a Project Manager for Echoes CHM, Ian’s role is to manage, administer and supervise projects for ECHM and to maximise the productivity of field managers and field archaeologists. Ian completes these projects to a high standard and within budget. Ian is also responsible for project life cycle including scope of works and budgets, managing teams in the field and overseeing the resultant survey reports. He also administers ECHM’s ongoing internal seminar series, a training initiative designed to maintain high professional standards and keep staff informed about the status of the heritage industry.
Ian is a strong leader and is a member of the ECHM Management Team.
Jacob Lambert Field Manager
Jacob has been a member of the GJCRM team since mid-2016 and has taken on the responsibility of managing archaeological heritage surveys in the field. Jacob is currently a Field Manager for Echoes CHM.

Jacob has managed and participated in a number of archaeological surveys as well as salvage and excavation programs throughout Tasmania and Victoria.

During his time at ECHM Jacob has contributed to a number of Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys, managing projects in the Pilbara and Goldfields regions of Western Australia. His role has been to liaise with traditional indigenous landowners and proponent clients as well as identify and recording archaeological material.
Ben Pentz Field Manager
Ben began working with GJCRM in 2011 as an archaeologist and heritage consultant and is currently a Field Manager for Echoes CHM. He has contributed to a number of Aboriginal cultural heritage surveys in the Pilbara and the Goldfields, and his roles have involved liaising with traditional indigenous land owners and clients as well as identifying and recording archaeological material. He has also authored, co-authored, and edited multiple site avoidance, section 16, section 18 and salvage level heritage reports.

Ben has also had substantial archaeological experience throughout Canada.
Tegan Raines QC Manager & Senior Report Writer
Tegan completed her Honours in archaeology at the University of Western Australia in 2016 and joined the GJCRM team in 2017 as an assistant report writer. Since then, Tegan has taken on the responsibility of QC Manager for the Echoes CHM Team and works with the report writing team to produce archaeological reports for clients. Tegan looks forward to continuing to maintain the high standards of Echoes Cultural Heritage Management.
